Creating and Using Member Rooms
- Overview
Palace operators may allow members to create their own rooms. These member created rooms or member rooms exist only temporarily, deleting themselves whenever two conditions are met: (1) there is no one inside the room and (2) when the room owner is no longer on the server. There are number of special commands associated with member rooms. Like most special commands, these are typed directly into the Input Box, and begin with a single backquote ( ` ).
- Member Room Commands
`newroom roomName
Creates a new room with a cloudy sky background. If you don't supply roomName, the new room will be called "UserName's room" (your name will appear where the UserName is). When you create a room you become its owner (similar to being a "channel op" on IRC), and may use all of the special commands listed below within that room. If the room empties and you log off, then the room will disappear.
`rdelete
Deletes the room. This command is rarely necessary, as the room will disappear of its own accord anyway.
`rowner userName
Allows you to transfer ownership of the room to userName.
`rname roomName
Renames the room to roomName.
`rpicture filename
Allows you to specify a new background picture for the room. You may use any of the pictures that are on the server, (look in your media/Palacename/Pictures folder to see the list). You can use a custom picture of your own creation if you wish, but only people who have a copy of that graphic will be able to see it. Everyone else will see a black background.
`rkick userName
Kicks userName out of the room. The person will be kept out for the remainder of their session, or until ownership is transferred. NOTE: They can get around this by logging off. If you are having a real security problem you can either use a password, close the room entirely (see below), or page an operator for assistance.
`runkick userName
Cancels the effects of an 'rkick command.
`rpassword yourPassword
Denies entrance to the room except to those who know yourPassword. When someone tries to get in, the server will deny access and request that the person type `password yourPassword to get in. For example, if you create a room and type:
`rpassword mojo
Other users will be unable to enter your room unless they type:
`password mojo
`rclose
Closes (locks) the room, preventing access by anybody except the room owner. If everybody inside leaves, the room automatically opens.
`ropen
Opens (unlocks) the room.
`rscripts on
`rscripts offTurns Iptscrae scripts on and off within the room. Scripts are on by default.
`rpainting on
`rpainting offTurns painting on and off within the room. Painting (also known as drawing) is on by default.
`rguests on
`rguests offDenies access to guests (non-members).
`rhide on
`rhide offRemoves the room from the Room List (for all except operators and owners, who can still see it).
`runhide
Cancels the effects of an 'rhide command. Same as 'rhide off.
- New Commands on Plugall Equipped Servers
Many servers use a new Palace server plugin called plugall, which adds new commands and functionality to member-created rooms.
`myroom
Allows a room owner to go to that owned room.
`rannounce [message]
Send [message] to everyone in the current (member created) room.
`rbanlist
List the users who have been disciplined in the current (member created) room.
`rgag [user]
prevents the user from chatting or whispering in the room. It may be whispered or the target user may be named. When the user leaves the room, the gag is suspended until the user reenters the room. Note that wizards and the room owner are not affected by this command.
`rlimit [on|off]
Makes a member room subject to the ALTMEMBER parameters from the parameter file. If `rlimit is entered without a parameter, the current setting is displayed. This is not activated on all plugall-enabled servers.
`rlockdown
Set rscripts off, rpaint off, rnolooseprops on, and rlimit on in the current (member created) room.
`rnodupavatars [on|off]
Prevents two user from wearing the same avatar in the room. If `rnodupavatars is entered without a parameter, the current setting is displayed. Note that wizards and the room owner are not affected by this command.
`rnolooseprops [on|off]
Allows member room owners to prevent loose props from being dropped in their rooms. If `rnolooseprops is entered without a parameter, the current setting is displayed. Note that wizards and the room owner are not affected by this command.
`roompage [message]
Summon help from the operators in the current room with [message].
`roperatorsonly [on|off]
Control whether members are permitted in the current (member created) room.
`rpage [message]
Allows anyone in a member room to send a message to that room's owner. The owner may use the `respond command to send a response.
`rpin [user]
Pins the target user while in the member room. It may be whispered or the target user may be named. When pinned, the user is kept in the lower right corner of the room and forced to wear the chains prop (number 1280). When the user leaves the room, the pin is suspended until the user reenters the room. Note that wizards and the room owner are not affected by this command.
`rpropfreeze [on|off]
Freezes all loose props in the room. Other users can't move or delete them. (Other users may copy them.) If `rpropfreeze is entered without a parameter, the current setting is displayed. Along with `rnolooseprops, this command gives the room owner control of loose props in the room. Note that wizards and the room owner are not affected by this command.
`rpropgag [user]
Prevents a user from wearing props in the room. It may be whispered or the target user may be named. The user may again wear props after leaving the room, until reentering the room. Note that wizards and the room owner not affected by this command.
`rtake
Take ownership of the current (member-created) room after the owner has been disconnected.
`rungag [user]
Ungag [user] when in the current (member created) room.
`runpin [user]
Unpin [user] when in the current (member created) room.
`runpropgag [user]
Unpropgag [user] when in the current (member created) room.
`rwho
Inquires about the room's owner. If the owner is not on the server, it will note that fact and recommend the`rtake command to gain ownership. If the user is a wizard or god, or if MEMBERRWHO is yes, it will respond with the name of the room's owner. If the user is a guest or member, it will say that the room has an owner an recommend the `rpage command as a way of contacting that owner.
- Additional Notes Regarding Member Rooms
Note 1:
A member room will disappear from the Palace site if it empties out while its owner is logged off. If the room remains occupied, its owner may log off and log back on, and will retain ownership of the room. Member rooms all disappear when the server goes down. Each member is allowed to create only one member room at a time.
Note 2:
Server operators can decide which of the above commands to activate, and some servers do not activate every command. To see which Member Room commands are available to you, type `help all after making a room, and the list of available commands will appear in your log window.
Note 3:
If you `rhide your room, and then leave, you will not see it on the room list. To get back to your room, press control-B (command-B on Mac) to go to previously visited rooms until you get back to your hidden room. On a server that uses the latest version of plugall, you can use the `myroom command to return to your room.
