AOL Download And Installation Errors
- Overview
Recently, there has been a significant increase in errors encountered by AOL users when they try to download and install Palace software. The information on this page is designed to help AOL users who are experiencing this problem. While this information is specifically for helping download and install Palace software, it might help with other software as well. If you are an AOL user, and have experienced errors when first trying to download Palace software, and were able to overcome the problem, please send an email to and let us know the details of your solution, so we can add to this page and help others.
- Try Another Internet Service Provider
Some people are fortunate enough to have more than one Internet Service Provider (ISP) available to them. If an ISP beside AOL is available, try using that ISP to download the Palace software.
- Try Another Web Browser
Some AOL users who encountered the "Corrupt Download Detected" error have reported successful downloads and installations by not using the web browser within the AOL application, but by using an external web browser instead. First, make sure you are connected to AOL. Then, while you are connected, minimize AOL by clicking on the "_" in the top right hand corner of your screen, and then double click on the Internet Browser you have installed. You might have a blue E on your desktop that looks like this:
![]()
Another way to launch Internet Explorer would be to go to Start Menu, Programs, and click on Internet Explorer:
![]()
This should launch another web browser called Internet Explorer outside the AOL application, which you can use to go back to the download page, and try the download again. Or you can just copy and paste this URL into the address field of Internet Explorer:
http://eagles.chatserve.com/PalaceUserWin.exeCopy and paste the above URL into the address field of Internet Explorer, and then press the Enter key.
You may have other web browsers on your computer. You can also check to see if your computer has Netscape, and try downloading Palace software with Netscape. Go to Start Menu, Programs, and see if there is something listed called Netscape Communicator. If so, click on Netscape Navigator, and then go to the download site, and try again. Another option would be to download a small, free web browser called Opera, and use it to try downloading Palace again. Click here for more information on this option, and a link for downloading the free version of Opera.
If you use this "Alternate Browser" method to successfully download and install Palace software after running onto errors, please send an email to and let us know which program you used, so we can use that information to help others.
- Screen Name and Account Classification Issues
The most common errors reported by AOL users when trying to download and install Palace software are errors such as "Corrupt Download Detected" or "Corrupt Cabinet File". One helpful AOL user told us that under one screen name, they could download and use the Palace because the screen name was classified as "General", but under another screen name, they received the "Corrupt Download Detected" error, and that screen name was classified as "Teen". When they had the person with the master screen name change the account classification to "General", it worked, and no more errors.
Another helpful AOL user told us that some download and installation problems can occur if your AOL screen name is designated as a Child, Young Teen, or Mature Teen. With these types of AOL screen names, you are limited in your ability to use Internet software through your AOL connection. To change the status of an AOL screen name to General Use, you must sign on with the master screen name, and go to Keyword: ParentalControls.
- Other Possible Reasons for "Corrupt Installation Detected" Error
If your hard drive is almost full, that will generate the "Corrupt Installation Detected" error. Check and see if you have enough hard drive space left. You can check your hard drive space by double-clicking on My Computer, and then right click on the C drive, and go to Properties.
The "Corrupt Installation Detected" error can also be generated when you have received an incomplete or bad download. Sometimes this is caused by line noise. This is a fairly common problem and is nothing to be alarmed about. Delete the setup file you currently have and download a new one. It is recommended that while you are downloading that you remain as inactive as possible online during the download so everything goes smoothly. You can also try downloading when there is less activity on the Internet, such as early in the morning.
If the Windows directory is Write Protected, that will also generate the "Corrupt Installation Detected" error. To check on this, double click on My Computer, then double click on the C drive, then right click on the Windows directory, and verify that "Read Only" is not selected.
- Have A Friend Download The Files And Send Them To You
Have a friend who isn't on AOL download the installation file, install it on their computer, and then zip up the Palace directory, and send it to you. If your friend doesn't want to install or reinstall Palace on their computer, ask them to go to the bottom of this web page, where there are 2 zip files that your friend can download and send to you. If you have ICQ or AIM, that would be a good way to try transferring the files. If you use this method to successfully download and install Palace software after running onto errors, please send an email to and let us know which program you used, so we can use that information to help others.
- Download A Free Web Browser Called Opera
You can try downloading a free web browser named Opera. The download for the version without java is only 3.2 megs, and represents another possible solution for downloading Palace outside of the AOL environment. You can download the small version of Opera here:
Download Opera - Free Download - 3.2 MegsAfter downloading and installing Opera, use it to navigate to the download site, and try downloading and installing Palace again. If you use this method to successfully download and install Palace software after running onto errors, please send an email to and let us know the details, so we can use this information to help others.
- The "Corrupt Cabinet File" Error
This information came from the support knowledgebase at the adobe.com site:
The message "Corrupt cabinet file" appears if the downloaded file you're trying to open is damaged. Downloaded files are more susceptible to damage when downloaded during peak periods or over an unstable Internet connection.
Solution 1:
Download the file when there is less activity on the Internet (e.g., early in the morning).Solution 2:
Delete the file and download it again using an Internet connection that is known to be stable. To determine if an Internet connection is stable, contact your Internet service provider.Additional Information:

When you try to download the Palace installation file, Microsoft Internet Explorer returns one of the following security warning messages:
"Warning: The authenticity of this content cannot be verified, therefore it cannot be trusted. Problem listed below: A certificate (signing or issuer) has expired."
"The publisher cannot be determined due to the problems below: Authenticode signature not found."
Detail:
You selected the "Run this program from its current location" option in the File Download dialog box.Solution 1:
Ignore the message and continue downloading the file. It will run as expected.Solution 2:
Download the Palace installation file using a Web browser that does not use Authenticode verification, such as Netscape Navigator or Opera.Solution 3:
Save the Palace installation file to your hard disk, and launch it manually.Additional Information:
Internet Explorer uses Authenticode verification to confirm whether a file you're running has a valid authentication certificate and hasn't been modified since it was created. When you try to run a piece of software whose certificate has expired, Internet Explorer returns a security warning message.- Try Zipped Files Instead Of Using The Installer
Here is something you can try for a persistent download or installation problem. Palace doesn't actually need to use the installer program to be operational. Download both of these zip files, each of which are under 500K in size:
Zip File #1
Zip File #2You will need to create a directory on your C drive named Palace. One way to do this would be to double-click on My Computer on your desktop, then double-click on the C-drive. Go to File Menu, New, Folder, and create a new directory (folder) on your C drive, and name it Palace. Unzip all the contents of the palfiles2a.zip and palfiles2b.zip files that you just downloaded into that Palace directory. (If you don't have a program to unzip files, try Winzip from www.winzip.com.) Then go to that Palace directory, and double click on the Palace32.exe file to launch ThePalace.
To avoid other errors, it would be best to try the above solution using a web browser that is outside the AOL environment. Click here to learn more about this option. You might also want to have a friend who doesn't use AOL try to download these files, and then ICQ or AIM them to you.
